All stakeholders should stand to benefit from the advances in healthcare that biopharmaceutical technology offers and they all have a role to play. EBE has become a key focal point for information exchange between the research-based biopharmaceutical industry operating in Europe and all major stakeholders engaged in this process.

Biotechnology is delivering significant advances in human healthcare. Entirely new medicines are being created, notably for rare or previously untreated diseases. Biotech production methods provide safer versions of existing treatments in unlimited quantities. Biotechnology has revolutionised the research and development of new medicines and allows better product targeting for specific diseases and patient groups. A greater understanding of the genetic causes of disease allows early detection and treatment, and the new field of gene therapy may even herald the possibility to cure diseases, not simply treat them.

Mr. de Garidel is Vice-President South Region of Amgen International, based in Zug, Switzerland. He had already been an active member of the EBE Board as EBE Vice-President & Treasurer since April 2006. Marc de Garidel takes over the EBE presidency from Dr. Carlo Incerti, Senior Vice President Global Market Access at Genzyme, who will continue to sit on the EBE Board as Vice-President. more	EBE Training Seminar on Scientific Advice, 16 Sept. Brussels The EBE is organising a Regulatory Training Seminar on Scientific Advice, wich will be held in Brussels at the Renaissance Hotel, on 16 September 2010. A successful marketing authorization application for a new product may be jeopardized if the regulators challenge key aspects of the development programme. Scientific advice provides an opportunity to discuss key aspects of the plan with the regulators and an EMA study has revealed that companies that apply scientific advice are more likely to be successful in obtaining a marketing authorization. more
